Children & Families

A plain guide for parents and carers: what CrewPlay does, what it doesn’t, and the settings that put you in charge. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.

  • Effective 22 Sep 2026

  • Version 1.0

The short version

  • No chat, no strangers, no accounts. There is no way for anyone to message your child.
  • No ads and no tracking in the current app.
  • Collects no personal information, from children or from anybody.
  • Purchases need the Google Account holder, and you can require a password for every one.
  • Crew Link only reaches phones on your own Wi-Fi, never the internet.
  • Friendly by design. Nobody is ever told they lost, and everybody gets a place on the podium.

1 Can my child…?

The questions parents ask most, answered in one word and then one sentence.

No Talk to strangers?

CrewPlay has no chat, messaging, friends lists or online matchmaking. The only other players are the people holding the same phone, or the phones in a Crew Link room on your own Wi-Fi.

No See adverts?

The current app shows no advertising at all. If that ever changes, we will update our policies first.

No Share their location?

CrewPlay never asks for location, and the one permission it can ask for (Nearby devices, for Crew Link) is declared never for location.

Only with you Spend money?

Every purchase goes through the Google Play checkout of the account on the phone. Turn on purchase authentication (section 4) and nothing can be bought without your password or fingerprint.

Yes Play with no internet?

Every game works offline: on a trip, in the car, with no signal at all.

By nickname Be seen by others?

Only by the players in their match. On a shared Wi-Fi network, other people with CrewPlay open can see a room’s host nickname, so use your own hotspot and a nickname rather than a full name.

2 What CrewPlay knows about your child

Only a nickname, a character and some scores, and all of it stays on your phone.

A child’s player is a nickname (up to twelve characters), a character and colour, their scores and coins, and a random ID that keeps those together. It is stored only on your phone. We never receive it, and nothing identifies your child to us or to anybody else.

To remove it, delete the player in the Party tab, or use Settings → Your data → Reset everything. We recommend nicknames rather than full names.

4 Purchases and parental controls

Two minutes in Google Play puts every purchase behind your password.

Require authentication for purchases

  1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Go to Settings → Authentication → Require authentication for purchases.
  3. Choose For all purchases through Google Play on this device.

Family Link

If your child has their own supervised Google Account, Google Family Link lets you approve purchases and downloads, and set screen-time limits.

If something was bought by accident

See our Refund Policy. Google Play reviews refunds for purchases made by a family member, and we help too.

5 Screen time and wellbeing

CrewPlay is built for short games played together, not endless scrolling.

  • Most games last two to ten minutes, and a match always ends with a podium for everybody.
  • There are no streaks to protect, no notifications and no timers pulling your child back.
  • Android’s Digital Wellbeing and Family Link can set daily limits for any app, CrewPlay included.
  • With several people sharing one phone, put it on a flat surface and take breaks. See Play safely for the photosensitivity notice.

6 What’s in the games

Cartoon characters, board games and gentle competition. The word list is profanity-filtered.

CrewPlay has board and party games such as Ludo, carrom, tic-tac-toe and dots and boxes, plus sports and arcade games. The most combative moments are a kabaddi tackle and two cartoon cannons lobbing shells at each other’s hillside. There is no blood, no realistic violence and no scary content.

Guess in 5’s word list is filtered for profanity, and so is any word that comes from the internet for the Daily Challenge. The words on screen are warm and encouraging: nobody is ever told they lost.

7 Our commitments under the law

We don’t collect children’s information, don’t track them and don’t advertise to them.

  • India (DPDP Act, 2023): anybody under 18 is a child. We process no children’s personal data, and we do not track, monitor the behaviour of, or target advertising at children.
  • United States (COPPA): we do not collect personal information from children under 13, in the app or through any partner inside it.
  • EEA and UK: CrewPlay is designed in the spirit of the UK Age Appropriate Design Code: high privacy by default, no profiling, no location, and no nudges to give anything up.

If we ever change anything that affects children, such as introducing advertising, we will update this page first and follow Google Play’s Families rules wherever they apply.
